Sex Witch Free From Jail
September 27th 2006 07:11
A self-proclaimed male “witch” has recently been freed from a Victorian jail. 49-year-old, Robin Angas Fletcher finished serving a 10-year sentence for engaging in indecent acts with children under the age of 16, penetration of a child and prostitution of a child. How could he commit such repulsive acts? Witchcraft, he says...
Mr Fletcher used hypnotism and other techniques that alter a person’s state of mind, on underage girls to encourage them to engage in prostitution and sadomasochistic activities. All victims were 15 years of age at the time of the sexual acts.
But despite having served his entire prison sentence, no one is happy about his release from jail.
Not the Adult Parole Board, who wanted to keep Fletcher in prison for a longer period of time.
Not the Australian Pagan network (known as PAN) who says that Fletcher’s acts do not represent the beliefs of witches, and has also expressed the opinion that he should remain in jail for a longer period of time.
And definitely not the people of the community in which he will now make his home.
Despite all these opinions, Fletcher didn’t even have to cast some hocus-pocus spell to get himself out of jail. Under the Sex Offenders Monitoring Act, keeping him behind bars after he has served his sentence is unlawful.
So I guess it all comes down to implementing more harsh penalties for child sex offenders. Was 10 years enough in this case?

Yes, the law is unbalanced, isn't it? Sex offenders should spend more time inside, and drug possession should spend less time inside, in my opinion.

These are clearly two different branches of crime. How can a physical crime against humanity, particularly our children, be no more punishable than someone who ripped of a large corporation for a few thousand bucks!
Unbalanced, Cibbuano. Unbalanced indeed. More like top heavy if you ask me ... and teetering...

I wonder if he honestly believes he did it because of witchcraft or if he's even more of a sicko than he appears to be?

BTW, I know some witches. Stuff like this really hurts them because it reinforces the hysterical negative sterotypes people have about witches and pagans.

BenP, like you said about the negative stereotypes, this guy is a one off jerk who is saying he did all his actions in the name of witchcraft. But really, other witches and pagans don't do these kinds of things at all. They are good people and what he has done should not reflect on their beliefs and practices.
