Another Prostitute Body Found

December 13th 2006 08:40
Detectives in Ipswich, England are currently facing a race against time as an anonymous serial killer strikes again.

The naked body of a female prostitute was found today in scrubland just a few hundred yards away from Old Felixstowe Road. Her body is the fifth one found in the space of two weeks.

Police are yet to confirm the identities of the last two victims but believe them to be 24-year-old Paula Clennell and 29-year-old Annette Nicholls.

Only a few days ago, Ms Clennell made an appearance on national television speaking out about the earlier murders. She admitted that the horrific news would not deter her from continuing to work the streets because she needed the money but it made her wary about getting into strangers' cars.

She was last seen on Saturday 9 December at 1am in Rendlesham Court.

The police raised awareness of a serial killer targeting the area's prostitutes after the body of 25-year-old Gemma Adams was found on December 2 and just several days later, the body of her 19-year-old friend, Tania Nichol.

Now the murderer has taken the lives of 5 women. Detectives are investigating the matter with urgency so as to put the perpetrator behind bars before he or she strikes again.

I don't know if it's just me, but I onlyheard about this tonight.
You would think that because of the Jack The Ripper story, the media would have been reporting it earlier - or like I said, is it just me?

LB,

This morning I just finished reading Harold Schecter's life of H.H. Holmes ... (I do read other literature besides true crime ... posts like this on true crime) ...

Why am I telling you this? Um? You tell me, and then we'll both know?

The post title ... (plus I haven't been here for a while ... but we won't mention that ...

At first read, it seems like someone is trying to be a modern day Jack the Ripper copycat to me ...

Schechter made a few comparisons to Holmes and Jack ... The jury is still out on who was worse ...

I'm really tired. I'm going to bed now to read another true crime novel. They help me sleep soundly. Anything mushy gives me nightmares ...

Homer ...

This murderer is only very loosely based on Jack the Rippers killings in that Jack had a penchance for prostitutes and so does the Ipswich one. This is where the comparison ends as far as we know.

There's no meticulous withdrawl of organs with surgical precision and this murderer leaves them in scrubland and/or creeks not left on the street. I'm not sure whether Jack strangled his victims yet this was the cause of death for at least one of the Ipswich victims amongst at least another one.

Yes, this reminded me of Jack the Ripper as well. In my younger days I used to read books of real-life crimes like these and The Moors Murders. How I ever slept I don't know. How awful these crimes are.

The media cracks me up though.
They keep reporting the people of Ipswich are scared!
But if you are not a chick on the game in that town you've prolly got nothing to worry about.

I think I would still be a bit wary if I was a female in Ipswich though...

It's not something new, but it's always fascinating to hear about it from the sex workers:

This is no life for anyone

I agree, Cib. I think it's awful.

Thanks for alll your comments. I think everyone agrees that this is a truly sickening thing that's going on.

Would you believe, I found a lot of blogs on this same news item referring to the victims as "just prostitutes" - I don't know how anyone can say such a thing! These are young girls, some are mothers, some are sisters, all are daughters and human beings! No one deserves this and I really hope the police find the perpetrator very very soon.

Homer! Where have you been?

As Depeche Mode said, 'People are people, so why should this be?'

... that you and I should get along so awfully ..."

I feel a horror movie brewing somwhere ... Vice could be the title (a play on prostitution and strangulation)

i wonder whether the killer chose to kill paula clennell simply because she spoke out in defiance against the killer?

Laura - it seems like he/she was trying to prove something. It's really very creepy.
